How do I know if Lisa Chen & Associates is the right fit for me?

Wondering if we're a good match? We offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. It's a chance to get to know us, understand our approach, and see if we align with your needs. Ultimately, the best way to determine if we're the right fit is to schedule your first session with us.

The purpose of an initial consultation with a therapist is to determine if you are a good fit for working together. As a prospective client, you can expect a 15-20 minute conversation where you will have the opportunity to share your concerns, goals, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and get a sense of the therapist's approach and personality.

The consultation allows you to gauge your comfort level with the therapist and determine if their style and methods resonate with you. It's an important step in finding the right fit for your therapeutic journey.

Not sure which clinician suits me best?

We understand! Schedule a consultation with Lisa Chen, the Founder and Executive Director of Lisa Chen & Associates. She can guide you in choosing the ideal therapist from our team or our extensive referral network.

Do you accept insurance?

Lisa Chen & Associates are out-of-network providers. We provide monthly insurance statements ("Superbills") for you to seek partial reimbursement from your insurance company according to your policy. For questions about your out-of-network benefits, please contact your insurance carrier before scheduling.

Do you work with clients monthly or on a bi-weekly basis?

We do not work with clients on a monthly or bi-weekly basis. However, former clients will have the opportunity to schedule sessions on an as-needed basis after initial treatment goals have been reached.

Can I use HSA or FSA to pay for therapy?

You may be able to pay for therapy with your HSA or FSA funds. Lisa Chen & Associates recommend following up with your HSA program for eligibility.

What is your cancellation policy?

As a practice, we see that the best therapeutic outcomes occur when treatment is consistent. As a result, we see clients a minimum of once weekly.

If you require a session cancellation, please provide at least 48 hours' notice. Cancellations can be a tricky issue, and we understand that sometimes unexpected issues or events pop up—every day life can sometimes get in the way, and we understand. We want to ensure the best possible outcome of your therapy, where we’ve seen consistency to be the top factor. Here is how we deal with cancellations:

Weekly clients are allowed 3 free cancellations every 6 months, and bi-weekly clients are allowed 2 free cancellations every 6 months, beginning from the date of your first session. You will be responsible for payment for your normally scheduled session time for all cancelled appointments beyond this, regardless of whether you attend or not.

Additionally, you may always choose to reschedule and/or take sessions virtually to accommodate occasional scheduling conflicts as often as needed. Rescheduled sessions are subject to availability in the clinician’s schedule, which may be limited.

How often should I expect to meet?

We recommend weekly therapy sessions for optimal progress. However, there are times when clients prefer to meet twice a week for more complex challenges. During your initial phone consultation, let us know if you are interested in more frequent sessions.

How long are the sessions?

Our standard sessions are 50 minutes long. Couples and adult families sometimes prefer 90-minute sessions. Feel free to inquire about longer session options during scheduling.

Do you have evening and weekend availability?

Lisa Chen & Associates offers evening and weekend availability. We also reserve weekends for couples intensives and EMDR intensives.
