Meet Jessica Slavin, AMFT: Helping Couples Reconnect and Individuals Heal(#140590)
For Jessica Slavin, becoming a therapist started with her own healing. Growing up in a complicated family system, she carried anxiety, self-doubt, and relationship struggles into adulthood. It wasn’t until she stepped into her own therapy that she began to understand how early attachment wounds shaped the way she loved, trusted, and related to others. “Therapy gave me a place to feel seen without judgment,” she says. “It taught me how to build healthier relationships and feel grounded in who I am. That’s what I want for my clients.”
Jessica is especially passionate about couples therapy because she knows the impact it can have beyond the two people in the room. “When a couple repairs and reconnects, it doesn’t just change their relationship—it creates a safer, more loving environment for their children and future generations.”
Using the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, and a deeply relational approach, Jessica helps couples:
Rebuild trust and emotional intimacy after distance or conflict.
Learn practical communication tools that create lasting change.
Understand how early experiences and attachment patterns affect their dynamic.
Navigate cultural and intergenerational differences, including Asian American couples balancing tradition and closeness.
Prepare for marriage with a strong foundation through premarital counseling.
Jessica also works extensively with individuals—especially women navigating anxiety, self-esteem, and relationship challenges; clients healing from childhood trauma or attachment wounds; and those overcoming fears such as public speaking or flight anxiety using EMDR.
Her clients often describe her as calm, validating, and deeply engaged. Couples say she helps them feel truly heard while guiding them to create meaningful shifts together. Individuals share that her warmth and compassion make it easier to explore patterns and begin healing with hope instead of shame.
Outside of her work, Jessica finds grounding through movement—hot yoga, pilates, and weightlifting—and quiet moments painting, meditating, or being near the ocean. She carries Viktor Frankl’s words from Man’s Search for Meaning into her work: “Those who have a ‘why’ to live can bear almost any ‘how.’”
Jessica holds a Master of Science in Counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Northridge. She has provided therapy at the Southern California Counseling Center and began her career in mental health volunteering at Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center.
Specialized Expertise in Couples Therapy and Emotional Intimacy

Understand mental health challenges through a relational lens
Improve communication and reduce conflict
Build tools for emotional regulation, boundaries, and repair
Her work creates a space for families to move from overwhelm toward understanding and connection.
A Tailored, Evidence-Based Approach
Jessica blends evidence-based modalities—including the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, DBT, and CBT—to create a therapy experience that is both structured and emotionally resonant. Each session is collaborative and personalized, meeting you where you are while helping you move forward with clarity and confidence.
