You got here by being good at hard things.
A lot of the people who reach us from Manhattan Beach built this life on purpose. The career came first, then a home a few blocks from the Strand, then a calendar that runs from early calls with New York to a commute up to El Segundo, Playa Vista or Century City. From the outside it's working. Most days it is.
What brings people in is rarely a crisis. It's a shorter fuse, sleep that doesn't restore you, a partner who says you're never really home even when you are, or a quiet sense that the next milestone won't feel any different from the last one.
That gap between how things look and how they feel is what we work on. And because our office is a short drive south, a session fits between work and home instead of taking the whole evening.
What Manhattan Beach clients work on with us
Burnout that rest doesn't fix
Success that feels empty
The anxiety and perfectionism behind high performance
Distance at home, or the same fight on repeat
Big transitions: a new role, an exit, a move
How we work with executives and founders
Lisa Chen & Associates is a group practice of eight clinicians, licensed therapists and supervised associates, founded by Lisa Chen, LMFT. Lisa trained at Wharton and Harvard Business School and spent her early career in corporate finance and Wall Street trading. If you work with her, you won't spend your first sessions explaining what a board meeting or a fundraise feels like.
We don't treat this as a time-management problem. Using EMDR, Internal Family Systems and somatic approaches, we work on what keeps you operating past your limits, and why easing off feels like a bet you can't afford. The goal is small, defensible changes that protect your energy and your position, not a life overhaul.
Privacy when people know you
In a town where your kids' school, your clients and your neighbors overlap, being recognized in a waiting room has a real cost. Online sessions and evening appointments give you options if you'd rather not be seen coming and going. Sessions are confidential, and if we have a personal or professional connection that could get in the way, we'll tell you before we begin.

When it’s the relationship or family that’s strained
Often the person who reaches out first isn't the one who's struggling most. It's the partner who feels the distance. We see Manhattan Beach couples weekly for 50 minutes, often in the evening or on a Sunday, using the Gottman Method, Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) and Imago Relationship Therapy. If you're up against a date, such as a wedding, a move or a decision about the relationship, a couples intensive gives you a full day or several days of focused work.
