Holding everything together, and running low.
Torrance is a city of people who keep things running. Its largest employers are its two hospitals, Torrance Memorial and Providence Little Company of Mary, along with the school district, American Honda, Robinson Helicopter and Honeywell. Many of the people who reach us from Torrance are nurses, physicians, teachers, engineers and managers, and most of them go home to a second full-time job: a house to keep up and kids to raise.
Some households run on two demanding incomes. Others stretch one income to cover everything. Either way, the load is constant. What brings people in is rarely a single crisis. It's patience that runs out by evening, sleep that doesn't restore you, anxiety that hums under everything, or the sense that you take care of everyone except yourself.
That is what we work on. Not a life overhaul you don't have time for, but small, realistic changes that give you back some energy and some room to breathe, at home and at work.
What Torrance clients work on with us
Burnout from caregiving work in health care and education
Anxiety and the feeling of never being off duty
The mental load of running a household and a career at the same time
Perfectionism and guilt about not doing enough as a parent
Distance or the same fight on repeat with a partner
How we work with busy parents and professionals
Lisa Chen & Associates is a group practice of licensed therapists and supervised associates, founded by Lisa Chen, LMFT. We keep sessions practical and focused, because your time is limited and you want to feel a difference between appointments, not just talk about the week.
We use EMDR, Internal Family Systems and somatic approaches. In plain terms, that means working with the stress your body is holding and the part of you that can't stop managing everything, not only your thoughts about it. Read more about EMDR or our approach to burnout.
Clinicians who see Torrance clients
Payton Rund, AMFT, works with caregivers, healers and high-pressure professionals who are used to being the steadiest person in the room, which describes many of the nurses, physicians and teachers we see. Lisa Newman, LMFT, sees individuals, couples and families and is fluent in Spanish. Rebekah Richin, AMFT, helps people through transitions and relationship patterns that no longer fit. Lisa Chen, LMFT, works directly with many of our executive and founder clients.
Not sure who fits? The intake form takes a few minutes, and we'll match you with a therapist whose schedule works with yours. Sessions are confidential, and if we have a personal or professional connection that could get in the way, we'll tell you before we begin.

When it's the two of you who need help
Stress at work and at home tends to land on the relationship first: less time together, less intimacy, and the same fights about the household and who carries what. Our couples therapy for Torrance page covers how we work with couples, weekly or in a focused couples intensive. If your kids are struggling too, Lisa Newman, LMFT, also sees families.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have an office in Torrance?
No. Our only office is in Hermosa Beach at 2615 Pacific Coast Highway, about 15 minutes up PCH from much of Torrance. There is free garage and lot parking and an elevator to the suite. Many Torrance clients also meet with us online, anywhere in California.
Do you work with nurses, doctors and teachers?
Yes. Many of the people we see from Torrance work in health care or education, along with engineers, managers and small business owners. We focus on burnout, anxiety, compassion fatigue and the strain of caring for others all day and then again at home.
Can I get help with parenting stress without bringing my kids?
Yes. Many parents come on their own to work on their stress, their patience and the patterns they don't want to pass on. If it would help, we can also see you with your partner, and Lisa Newman, LMFT, works with whole families.
Do you offer evening or weekend sessions?
Yes. We see clients until 9pm Monday through Thursday, until 6pm on Friday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Availability varies by clinician, and online sessions can make it easier to fit therapy around work and school schedules.
How much does therapy cost?
Sessions run $180 to $500 per 50 minutes, depending on the clinician. Lisa Chen's sessions are $425 to $500. We're out of network and provide monthly superbills you can submit to your insurance; many Torrance employers' PPO plans reimburse a portion. Check your out-of-network mental health benefits to see what yours covers.
