You're both working hard. That might be the problem.
Most of the couples who come to us from Redondo Beach are not in crisis. They are two capable people with two demanding jobs who have slowly stopped being on the same side. One of you is in aerospace or healthcare or tech, the other is in sales or real estate, and between the commutes and the pipeline and the kids, the last real conversation you had was about logistics. Nobody has done anything terrible. It just feels like you're running a small company together instead of a marriage.
Then the same fight shows up again. Maybe it's about money, or the fact that one of you is always at work, or who gets to be tired. You both know the script by now. You also both know that the way it ends is with one of you going quiet and the other one giving up.
That pattern is what we work on. Not the individual fights, but the loop underneath them.
What Redondo Beach couples work on with us
- The same fight on repeat
- Distance and lost intimacy
- Rebuilding trust after an affair
- Premarital counseling
- Career pressure and big life changes
We are a group practice of eight clinicians founded by Lisa Chen, LMFT. Our couples work draws on the Gottman Method, Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), and Imago Relationship Therapy, and several of us are also trained in EMDR and somatic approaches for the cases where an old injury keeps getting dragged into the present. If you want the detail on how those methods work, our couples therapy page walks through it.
The first few sessions are assessment. We meet with you together, then each of you alone, then together again with a clear picture of where the relationship is strong and where it keeps breaking down. Most couples find that part clarifying on its own. From there we work on the specific pattern that brought you in, with a structure that lets both of you say the hard thing without it turning into the fight you came to stop.
Our practice has a particular focus on high-achieving professionals and the people married to them. We understand the version of this where the problem is not that someone doesn't care, but that someone has been protecting their position at work so hard that there is nothing left when they get home.

Weekly sessions or an intensive
Most Redondo couples see us weekly for 50 minutes, usually in the late afternoon or evening so two people with commutes can both make it. That is the right pace for most situations.
Some couples need more than that. If you are working against a date, whether that's a wedding, a decision about the marriage, or a move, or if the weekly hour keeps ending right when you get to the real thing, we offer couples intensives that compress several weeks of work into one or two longer sessions. Details and pricing are on our couples intensives page. [link to intensives page] We'll tell you honestly which format fits after the first conversation.
We also see engaged couples from Redondo for premarital counseling, which is the same work done earlier and with far less to undo. [link "premarital counseling" to the premarital page]

We also see individuals from Redondo Beach
Not every problem in a marriage is a marriage problem. Sometimes one of you is carrying something that started long before the two of you met, and it keeps showing up in the relationship no matter how well you communicate. We see individuals from Redondo Beach for EMDR and trauma therapy, anxiety, and the particular strain of being the high performer everyone else leans on. If you're not sure whether you need couples work or your own therapist first, that's a fine question to bring to the first call.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a Redondo Beach office?
Our office is in Hermosa Beach, on PCH, about ten minutes from anywhere in Redondo. Many of our couples live in Redondo and treat the short drive as a useful buffer between work and the session.
Do you offer evening or weekend couples sessions?
Yes. We see clients until 9pm Monday through Thursday and on Sundays from 10 to 4, and those are our most common couples slots, because most of the couples we see both work full time.
Can we do some sessions online?
Yes. We offer telehealth to anyone in California, and couples often mix in-person and video sessions depending on travel and schedules.
Do you take insurance for couples therapy?
We are out of network. We can provide a superbill for you to submit to your plan, though most insurance does not reimburse couples therapy specifically.
Do you see individuals, or only couples?
Both. Our therapists see individuals from Redondo Beach for EMDR, trauma, anxiety, and burnout, and it's common for one partner in couples work to also do their own sessions.
Ready to stop having the same fight?
Fill out the short intake form or book a consultation. We'll match you with the right therapist.
